Beginning Ballet

Beauty, flow and elegance are inherent in the elements of ballet. Ballet is a classical dance form that can be mastered by itself or used as a technical base or supplement to other dance forms. Classes focus on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on proper usage of feet and legs and execution of turnout. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed. Traditional barre work, center work and combinations are included in all classes.

Beginning: For students with some training in the selected style or a similar style. We recommend our Basics, or Intro, level enrollment class as a prerequisite, or at least 3 months prior training. Beginner level is excellent for students returning to dance after an extended absence as well as students who wish to continue training that was recently begun.

Led by TFD artistic director, Stuart Loungway.

Open Ballet with TFD at Halcyon Arts Lab

Authenticity. Experiential learning. Transformational experiences in ballet. These are the values that Terra Firma Dance's founder Stuart Loungway holds dear. Join us at Halcyon Arts Lab Workshops as Stuart shares his unique and effective system of ballet training, entailing a bodily approach to the development of the dancer through personalized instruction, as well as an ideo-kinetic focus that emphasizes the improvement of grace and unconscious muscle control. A nurturing, supportive and encouraging environment, dancers of ALL LEVELS are invited to join in this exploration of the forms of classical and contemporary ballet.

As Stuart's teacher and mentor, the late David Howard stated, “Out of the feeling comes the form”. With this in mind, Stuart is confident that regardless of age or skill-level; be it professional/ professional aspirant, adult student, or returning dancer, there is a place at the barre here for you!  “The art of ballet is evolving and Stuart Loungway is leading the way” -Kacie Peterson DanceMetro DC
